Our story
From their inception, Advantage Project brimmed with innovative ideas and a passion for modern jazz. Founded by Ukrainian jazz musicians Yaroslav Tovarianskyi and Iryna Dubenko, the group emerged with a shared vision of creating extraordinary music. Since 2018, they have actively toured across Ukraine, consistently surprising audiences with their fresh and original compositions.
Advantage Project's music, entirely self-composed, is rooted in contemporary jazz. The group's name, "Advantage," reflects their unique musical concept and collaborative spirit. The original quintet featured a lineup of voice, guitar, piano, upright bass, and drums, with Oleksii Boholiubov, one of Ukraine's premier pianists, joining from the start, alongside Denys Striutskyi on guitar and Serhiy Tabunshchyk on drums.
Between 2018 and 2020, the group performed numerous concerts, embarked on several tours, and created around 50 compositions. They also developed a special program integrating a jazz quartet with a string trio. Despite the challenges of the 2020-2021 pandemic, Advantage Project continued to perform in trio settings for smaller, open-air events.
Their efforts culminated in an EP recorded at Na Hati Records near Kyiv, with the track "Wake Up in the Morning" being named the best jazz song of 2021 in a Ukrainian music chart. Aspiring to record a full album, Iryna and Yaroslav traveled abroad to earn funds for the project. However, the onset of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2022 forced them to pause their activities and left the members dispersed globally.
After a hiatus, Advantage Project resumed in autumn 2023, with Iryna and Yaroslav relocating to Brussels to focus on an international audience. Fortunately, Oleksii Bogolyubov, now based in Cologne, could easily reconnect with the group. Together, they embarked on a mission to share Ukrainian jazz and narrate their country's story through music.
In January 2024, they recorded their debut album, "Eternal Changing," set for release soon. As Advantage Project gains popularity in Brussels' jazz scene, they continue to attract a growing fan base. Their journey is far from over - stay tuned for more from Advantage Project!
